Young readers ages 6-8 are invited to spend 10 minutes reading aloud to Elliot. Reading takes practice and reading aloud with a patient and non-judgmental canine friend is a great way for young readers to practice and become more confident. Led by 2 volunteer teachers, the walks start at the Quincy Library and follow different routes around Quincy Center (a maximum distance of 2 miles, walked at a slow pace). The walks are a great opportunity for English Language Learners to meet new people, enjoy casual conversation and learn about the many interesting places in Quincy Center! Longtime Quincy community members who are interested in meeting people from other cultures are very welcome to join, as well. Meet in front of the library (on Washington Street) at 10:00 AM. The group leaves the library at 10:15 AM so be sure to arrive by then! Other information: This is a drop-in event. Registration is not required. On cold or rainy days, the walk may be canceled. Drop-in teen crafts is a monthly program for teens who want to hang out and make stuff in a casual atmosphere. For this special craft, we will be tie-dying outside in the new parklet (weather permitting; if inclement weather, we will craft in the Teen Room). Drop in anytime between 2 and 3:30 PM to tie-dye a bandana or bring your own thing to tie-dye! This program runs until 4PM, but please give yourself at least a half hour to tie-dye. Summer is around the corner! Our summer reading theme this year is all about games: Level Up at Your Library in the Community Meeting Room! To celebrate, we are hosting a special event for teens, in partnership with One Up Games: History of Nintendo playable museum! Look at relics of games past--everything from Super Nintendo, to Gameboy, and more! When you are done perusing the collection of vintage gaming consoles and accessories, play sims of old games and newer Nintendo games as well! Stop in anytime and play for as long as you like! Teens are also invited to sign up for our summer reading challenge in the Teen Room. It's super easy and super fun, and this summer's challenge will include a battle of the branches--may the best branch win!
